Celadon Clay Art Gallery & Shop is pleased to present Better Together – Ceramic Sets, a national juried exhibition with juror Hayne Bayless. Through the concept of “sets”, the selected entries will illuminate and illustrate unity and harmony as exemplified by the relationship of individual pieces to one another whether through shape, size, color or any other concept or theme.
I've always liked the idea of a group of objects that go together, though it might not be an obvious similarity that connects them. They are better together, as this show's title suggests, but also stronger together. Each is an individual as well as part of a “community”.
The other delightful aspect to a "set" is that it implies togetherness. It usually means company, bringing people together to share in a toast, a meal, or a celebration.
Greater than the sum of its parts. – Hayne Bayless
Application Deadline June 15th, 2017
The 2017 Featured Member Series continues with work by Joan Walton. Strong, animated textural surfaces and richly glazed interiors are the hallmark of her hand-built clay vessels, informed by a lifetime of careful observation of often overlooked objects found in the woods or at the shoreline. Her work is a response to the construction and wearing away of these found objects and what beauty might be hidden in them.
Artist's Reception will be Sunday MAY 21 from 11AM-1PM
and there will be an Artist's Talk at 12noon.
The 2017 Featured Member Series continues with work by potter, Jesus Antoshka. His functional work is enlivened by a juxtaposition between the contemporary and classical. Jesus’s work also features rich, earth-tone glazing with robust forms that nod to the natural world. His body of work is for everyday use and made to be enjoyed in the home or outdoors.
